Bringing immersive art, murals, and more to UCF Downtown

A huge congratulations to UCF on the opening of UCF Downtown!

This new campus welcomes students and faculty today — Monday, August 26. It will bring 7,700 students to Downtown Orlando.

As the final construction was coming together, the time came to add artistic, visually interesting elements to the campus’s common spaces and hallways.

These elements are designed to inspire students and faculty to thrive in the academic environment.

Here are some fun projects our team concepted and brought to life with artists and the wonderful UCF leadership team.

“Stay Curious, See Different” : A Hallway of Colorful Light

The UCF team wanted to enliven some of the corridors of the academic commons building. Rather than stark white utilitarian spaces, these passing spaces are perfect for encouraging students to embrace their potential.

We started by creating a spectrum of colored light from the fixtures in the hallway. Then we covered the glass in each of the doors with color-matched window clings. Finally, clear vinyl lettering was added to the white walls. The lettering reflects the message to “Stay Curious. See Different.” It all comes together to create an inspiring environment — that students and faculty will be excited to share.

“Unleash Your Potential” Mural

The 3rd floor of the Dr. Phillips Academic Commons Building houses administrative offices and student work/study spaces. It was another perfect opportunity to inspire faculty and students to seize everyday.

We worked with mural artist, Harry Foreman (Akyros), to enliven the four walls of this common area.

We also strategized with UCF to tell the story of the artist — a UCF grad. It was a great opportunity to build additional interest in the project. You can read the story here.

Florida-Inspired Art Panels

UCF and City of Orlando staff wanted to bring visual interest to the outside of an otherwise plain facilities building. The mostly windowless structure houses electrical and utility equipment. We worked with artist, Clar Orr, to create a dozen 4’x8’ art panels to adorn the building.

This art was a great opportunity to pay homage to Central Florida, Creative Village, Downtown, and UCF.

The final art will be installed on large, mesh panels in the coming weeks.

Large-Scale Wayfinding

Wayfinding was a great way to bring additional visual interest. We worked with a designer to create large, colorful wayfinding that is both practical and inspiring.

Spaces are more than utilitarian. They are opportunities to create meaningful moments for the communities who spend time in those spaces.

We were honored to mobilize artists to bring these spaces to life. Congrats to UCF for bringing this huge dream to life.

We’d love to work with you to bring meaning to your office, headquarters, retail space… whatever environment you’re commissioned to create!
